Eukarya

Eukarya are organisms with complex cell structures enclosed within membranes. When we talk about the structure of cells, we are talking about the structure of Eukaryotic cells.

Eukaryotes vs Prokaryotes

Eukaryotes have a nucleus, enclosed within a nuclear envelope, whereas Prokaryotes have no membranes or organelles within the cell.

Kingdoms

Whilst the features of components eukaryotic cells are consistent among organisms, organisms within different kingdoms often have differing components or structure.

  • Kingdom Protista
    • Protista - diverse phyla that are not closely related through evolution and have different life cycles, trophic levels, modes of locomotion, and cellular structures.
  • Kingdom Plantae
  • Kingdom Fungi
  • Kingdom Animalia
