Golgi

THe Golgi (body/apparatus) is an organelle that packages and tags proteins before they are sent to their destination. It his hence important in protein secretion.

Structure

Golgi are comprised of membrane-bound structures known as cisternae

Function

There is a gap between the Endoplasmic Reticulum and the Golgi that only vesicles can cross, and hence it is vesicles that the Golgi receives from the ER.
Proteins contain peptides or carbohydrates that tell the Golgi where to send them.
