MATH1231 - Reduction Formulae

Reduction Formulae:
The reduction formula is used when we need to integrate a function that's been raised to the power of n. (Here denoted as In)

The aim behind it is to use a recurrence relation to express the integral In as a sum of integrals of functions raised to smaller powers. E.g. $I_n = I_{n-2}$

So $I_n = \int f(x, n)dx \rightarrow I_k = \int f(x, k)dx$, for k < n

Wikipedia has an awful lot to say on this, but given I'm not sure what's covered in my course I'll look up the notes before continuing.
